He was considered a star. Meaning on name alone he could generate box office revenue. All because of his charm and looks. As an actor though he had very limited range, a mediocrity at best.

So, to take your crap logic to the nth degree, why does that make him a j*rkoff? There are so many "Cary Grants" in the acting world, actors with a limited range, who basically played themselves in every role. John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Gable, Clooney, Bogart, Tracy, Eastwood etc etc etc. But, they passed the "pub test" - people watched their movies, and that's all that counts. They were actors, not artistes. Get it?
