Well, we all start out with all the same parts until somewhere early in the first trimester when those chromosomes tell some of those parts where to go and how to function (be ovaries & go north, or be testicles & go south; be a clitoris or a penis, etc.) Carl Jung taught that we are all a mix of male & female, being primarily one or the other, but with a little of the opposite one being inside helping drive the vehicle. So if you're a man, you're behind the wheel, but got this inner woman doing some backseat driving also, and vice-versa. (Anima & animus). I know you are an atheist, however, Judaism also teaches that 'man' was originally created as one integral single being, then the female part was taken out to make male and female separate 'halves' and need to work in tandem to be 'complete' again.

Other sciences and religions also have ideas which in part corroborate this idea of all of us being a 'mix' of male & female.

Just food for thought.
